A
native of Mobile, Alabama, Rev. Johnson has been in the
ministry since April 24, 1986. He officially began preaching
at Taylor Chapel C.M.E. Church in Prichard, Alabama.
His
pastoral experiences include:Hopewell C.M.E. Church, Pineapple,
Alabama; Wesley Chapel C.M.E. Church, Century, Florida;
Carter Temple C.M.E. Church (Assistant Pastor to Rev. Henry
Williamson, Sr.), Chicago, IL; St. Luke C.M.E. Church, Champaign,
IL; and Scruggs Memorial C.M.E. Church in St. Louis, Missouri.
In August 2002, he became the pastor of Phillips Temple
C.M.E. Church in Los Angeles, California.

Reverend Johnson graduated from the Mobile County Public
School system in Alabama and earned his Bachelor of Science
degree with a major in Psychology from Spring Hill College
in Mobile, Alabama. His Master of Divinity degree is from
Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary at Northwestern
University.
While
at Garrett-Evangelical, he served on the Board of Trustees,
and was a member of the National Association of Black Seminarians.
While at Carter Temple, he was involved in a special ministry
to the youth in the community, Project Image. This project
was designed to provide positive role models for young Black
men. He continued his youth ministry while in Champaign,
IL., where he also developed a strong Men and Women's Group
ministry.
At
Scruggs, his youth ministry continued to blossom. He received
a grant to provide child abuse awareness education in selected
St. Louis Public Schools. This program continued by providing
individual and family counseling to the abused and neglected
within the East St. Louis area. In St. Louis, he served
on various Boards and auxiliaries locally, further exemplifying
his commitment to the community.
Under
his watchful care at Phillips Temple, he is hands-on with
the feeding ministry (distributing food to 300 families
each week, English as a Second Language Program, Sober Living
Counseling, recently organized a Palmdale/Antelope Valley
Mission, and he is newly elected as the Central Alameda
Neighborhood Council Stakeholder-Faith Based Institution/Organization.
His future plans include exponential growth from the Purpose
Driven Life Campaign 2005.
Reverend Johnson is married to the lovely Mrs. Kimberly
Calvert-Johnson and they have one son, Ryan. Reverend Johnson
has led spiritual revivals and workshops across the country.
He has received the Outstanding Young Men of America Award
and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He loves
music and is a strong advocate for reclaiming the Black
male for the church, family and community. |
